The International Children's Choir Festival ZpívejFest in Vyškov was founded in 2005. It is regularly held in the first half of September. Nine years of the festival has brought more than eighty concerts, and presented over thirty choirs from nine European countries. This has made ZpívejFest one of the biggest regular children's choir festivals in Moravia.
Original festival idea was pointed at the presentation of children's choirs from Vyškov and its partner towns – they are represented by Pro Musica from Michalovce (Slovakia), the choir at the State Music School of Fryderyk Chopin from Jaroslaw (Poland), the school choir of Lessing Gymnasium from Döbeln (Germany), Vladimir Nazor Elementary School Children's Choir, and Jan Vlašimský Music School Children's Choir both from Virovitica (Croatia). Of course, Vyškov representatives of choral singing, especially successful Motýlek but also younger children's choirs (Notička, Čtyřlístek) and students' choir (Re-canto), can't be missing at any year. Later dramaturgy has been enriched and ZpívejFest has started to host other Czech and European outstanding ensembles – e. g. the top Czech Boys Choir Boni Pueri, legendary Bambini di Praga, world-renowned Kühn Children's Choir, the successful Moravian choirs Kantiléna and Primavera, or highly appreciated Hungarian choirs Miraculum, Aurin, Cantemus and Fazekas, where music education is based on Kodály's principles. The Boys' Choir "Stefka Blagoeva" came from Bulgarian Plovdiv, the Boys' Vocal Group FaVoZa was the representative of Slovenia. There are also more guests in the program every year.
It is the impressive concert halls of religious importance and architectural wealth in Vyškov that host the event – namely the late Gothic Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary, the early Baroque Cemetery Church of Virgin Mary, the Baroque Holy Trinity Church in Dědice, the Renaissance Chapel of St. Anne, the original Jewish Synagogue, the Renaissance castle garden, or the very heart of the protected Masaryk Square area. High-quality festivities together with dashing "stages" attract hundreds of visitors every year so that the festival established itself successfully as a fundamental component of cultural events in Vyškov.
However, the International Children's Choir Festival ZpívejFest would like to be more than just an interesting cultural event for public. It enables to the participating choirs sharing of their experience in workshops, it helps them to develop cooperation, motivate one another, but also make new friends and enjoy a lot of fun during an eventful leisure program. And it is the friendly and pleasant atmosphere of the festival what ZpívejFest wishes to keep for the future.
